Our Environment:

Yemen is classified as an LDC (Low Development Country) and has some of the highest and most detrimental social statistics in the world.  The following are some of the key indicators which reflect the present devastating situation: Maternal Mortality Rate – 1400 per 100,000, Infant Mortality Rate – 83 per 1000 , Under 5 Mortality Rate – 110 per 1000 , Fertility Rate – 6.7 , Total Public Health Governmental Expenditure – 3.2% , Life Expectancy at birth 61 years*  – , AHHI (average monthly income) – $70 , population below poverty line – 30% , School Enrollment Rate (age 6-15) males 76.12%, girls 40.71%, Educational Retention Rate  (1st-12th grade)– 20%, Illiteracy Rates- (rural/female = 73.29 , rural/male = 38.77%, urban/female = 38.77, urban/male = 20.55%)*
